Here are some helpful tips we've learned from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website to earn your teacher or administrative license.

*You can teach in a public school under a waiver (if approved) for one year.

Reciprocity

Generally, educators may qualify for reciprocity if they have:

  • Possession of a license/certificate comparable to the license sought issued by a state with which Massachusetts has signed the NASDTEC Interstate Contract and three years of employment within the last seven years under such license or certificate, or

  • Possession of a regional credential applicable to the license sought, or

  • Completion of an educator preparation program comparable to the license sought sponsored by a college or university outside Massachusetts that has been accredited by; the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), or the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), or

  • Completion of a state-approved educator preparation program comparable to the license sought in a state with which Massachusetts has signed the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement or other agreement accepted by the Commissioner.

 

*Other Massachusetts Requirements may apply specific to the license sought.
